New York: Simon & Schuster, 1969. VG/VG. First Edition. Stated First Printing. Translated from the French by Helen Weaver. The book is tight with solid hinges, good tips, and black cloth boards. Spine head pushed with wear. The textblock has the previous owner's faded stamp on the front endpapers; otherwise, it is clean, with no writing, bookplate, or markings, and is not BCE, ex-library, or remaindered. The dust jacket is unclipped ($5.95) with wear to spine ends and sunning to spine (see photos). Protected in a Mylar cover. 320 pages. 6 x 8½" tall. Basis for the 1973 Mike Nichols film starring George C. Scott.

A scientist who teaches dolphins to communicate in English has his research taken over by the military for a plot to assassinate the president. The novel explores the corrupting influence of government and military interests on scientific research, ultimately showing how political power can misuse an innocent creation for a violent purpose.
